We chose to use Corozo buttons for the hood as a biodegradable alternative to standard plastic.

Also known as ‘vegetable ivory’ Corozo is harvested naturally from the nuts of Tagua trees grown in South America preventing deforestation and supporting job creation in the local community. The entire collaboration has used all-natural fibers being entirely biodegradable.

Carbon Click to offset emissions

In addition to making local and other considerations of materials, energy, and business output CANVS has partnered with Carbon Click to offset emissions that are difficult to reduce or are a blind spot in the business. Please see our ETHICS for more information.

The project has been made entirely in Sydney by ARTCLUB makers with whom they share the same philosophy and have a close relationship.

Within each piece, you will find ‘Meet the maker’ labels hand-signed by the maker along with garment labels individually screen printed in the ArtClub studio on 100% cotton grosgrain.

The waffle fabric has been made from 100% GOTS certified cotton designed, knitted, and finished in Melbourne.

The knitting mill is a long-established manufacturer of 90years and is 100% Australian owned and operated.

The packaging for the project consists of 100% recycled eco-brown paper made in Sydney from 100% post-consumer waste.

This is secured with 100% carbon neutral manufactured stickers, printed with vegetable-based inks, and shipped all together in 80% recycled cardboard boxes locally produced using responsible forestry practices. We have opted to not used swing tags to save additional paper.

Our 100% Cotton terry is a ‘deadstock’ fabric.

This means it has been salvaged from another brand that no longer has any use for it, allowing us to up-cycle it into a new life.

The Challenges

Our very first goal was to look at circular supply chain options. We wanted to use pre or post-consumer waste for the Cotton Terry. This proved elusive in Australia and also impossible during the beginning of the pandemic. We also wanted to source our fabric locally which had us looking at reclaimed fabrics instead. This was readily available in the perfect weight and hand feel.
